The WE Energies/Domtar biomass project is not a "done deal."  Let the governor know that residents of Wisconsin and around the country want him to stop this project. Governor Walker did the right thing when he stopped the Madison biomass incinerator and we need him to do the right thing again.

Dear Governor Walker,

I applaud your decision to halt The Charter Street Heating Biomass Plant saving Wisconsin $100 million. I request that you take similar action immediately and stop the WE Energies’ Biomass Power Project in Rothschild.

An estimated $90 million taxpayer and ratepayer dollars will be spent to subsidize construction and operation of the WE Energies biomass project. In addition, the project will emit toxic air pollution to residents and schools located within 1/2 mile downwind. The American Lung Association states that burning biomass leads to significant increases in air emissions that have a severe impact on the health of children, older adults and people with lung disease. Governor, you have taken a stand to reduce expenditures in order to ensure a stable and sound future for Wisconsin. Cancelling the WE Energies biomass project will not only save taxpayer and rate payer money, it will also set a national precedent for fiscal responsibility.

Industry’s claims that jobs will be lost are unfounded. Local taxpayer and ratepayer dollars will leave the community, thus reducing local jobs and incomes to a greater extent than the few jobs the biomass plant will provide.  It is the biomass industry that will benefit at the expense of our pocketbooks, jobs, health and environment for decades to come.  I ask that you continue to show courageous leadership and stop this money debacle now.

The Rothschild biomass plant is a bad idea. Please take action now to stop this project and prevent a waste of taxpayer and ratepayer money.
